Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Specs Review

Design & Display

The Note 9 comes with a 6.4 inch super AMOLED display.  This is arguably the best display in the world right now. The display on the Note 9 is slightly bigger than that on last year’s Note 8 but the two phones seem to be of the same size. However, the Note 9 is slightly shorter and wider.  It also weighs a little more: 201g vs. 195g. The Infinity display is bright and has 18.5: 9 aspect ratio.  The Note 9 comes with two features that are missing in many flagship these days: a microSD card slot and headphone jack. Samsung Note 9 is IP68 certified (water and dustproof).

Another feature that is present in the Note 9 that is lacking in the iPhone X, Oppo find X and a few other flagships is a fingerprint scanner. This smartphone also has face unlock feature and an iris scanner.  The fingerprint scanner is centrally placed at the back.  The Note 8 has a fingerprint scanner on the rear but its off-center, something that most people don’t like.

Hardware, Software & Performance

The Samsung galaxy Note 9 is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chipset supported with either 6GB of RAM or 8GB of RAM. The 6GB RAM variant comes with 128GB on-board storage while the 8GB RAM version comes with 512GB on-board storage. This phones supports microSD cards of up to 512GB. This means that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is the first phone that allows up to 1TB storage space.

Samsung Note 9 runs on Android Oreo with Samsung Experience software on top. Obviously, Samsung will provide and upgrade to Android Pie.

Cameras

The Note 9 comes with the same rear camera profile of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. It features dual 12MP rear cameras utilizing the dual aperture technology. This means that the rear camera can switch from an f/2.4 aperture in well-lit environments to the f/1.5 aperture when it’s being used in low light areas.  The rear shooter can capture pretty impressive photos in the darkest of places.  The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is one of the very best camera phones in the world right now.   The rear camera has a host features including Optical Image Stabilization and 2x optical zoom.  There are up to 20 different camera settings including Portraits, Flowers, Food, Sky, Mountains, Trees, Sunsets and Sunrises, Snow, Waterfalls, Birds, Street scenes, Beaches etc.

The selfie camera on the Galaxy Note 9 is 8MP.  This camera captures pretty decent photos too.  It is the first Samsung Galaxy Note front camera with Autofocus.  The camera app is amazing and provides an array of options including wide group selfies, array stickers, slow-motion videos etc.

Battery & Extras

The Note 9 comes with a larger battery than the Note 8: 4000mAh vs 3500mAh.  This phone supports fast charging and wireless charging.  Samsung promises a day long battery life to heavy users.  If you are moderate user, you use this phone for up to two days on a single charge.

Samsung Note 9 comes with a Stylus S pen that is nothing like what we have seen before. The S pen is Bluetooth enabled and it can be used for a lot of tricks.
